The Intellectual Property Office of Viet Nam inaugurates the JICA Project "Strengthening Capacity in Patent and Trademark Examination in IP Viet Nam”.
With the goal of improving the efficiency of processing patent and trademark applications, as well as enhancing the capabilities of the staff of the Intellectual Property Office of Viet Nam (IP Viet Nam), on May 7, 2024, IP Viet Nam officially inaugurated the JICA Project "Strengthening Capacity in Patent and Trademark Examination in IP Viet Nam" in Hanoi. This is not only a significant step forward in promoting international cooperation but also a clear testament to IP Viet Nam's strong commitment to enhancing and developing Vietnam's intellectual property system.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Trần Lê Hồng, Deputy Director General of IP Viet Nam, Mr. Matsumoto Izumi, First Secretary of the Japanese Embassy to Vietnam, and JICA experts. The project "Strengthening Capacity in Patent and Trademark Examination in IP Viet Nam" is funded and implemented by the Japanese government after a period of project development with the close cooperation between the two sides.
The Inauguration Ceremony
On February 21, 2023, the Minister of Science and Technology issued Decision No. 182/QĐ-BKHCN approving the Project Document "Strengthening Capacity in Patent and Trademark Examination in IP Viet Nam." Based on the Ministry of Science and Technology's decision, IP Viet Nam will soon establish a Project Management Board and a Patent Working Group. IP Viet Nam will update the implementation status of the Project with JICA experts working at IP Viet Nam to support the Project's implementation.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director General of IP Viet Nam Trần Lê Hồng expressed gratitude to Mr. Matsumoto Izumi and JICA experts for their interest and support for the Project. The Project will strengthen the capacity for processing patent and trademark applications of IP Viet Nam, contributing to the development of science, technology, and innovation in Vietnam.
Deputy Director General of IP Viet Nam, Mr. Trần Lê Hồng, spoke at the ceremony.
"With the experience of collaborating with JICA and many generations of long-term experts in previous projects, IP Viet Nam will actively and effectively cooperate with JICA in general and JICA expert in particular to ensure this Project achieves its set goals, thereby strengthening the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan in the field of intellectual property," Mr. Trần Lê Hồng affirmed.

Mr. Trần Lê Hồng suggested that both sides should promptly organize technical-level meetings to discuss and develop an overall plan and a first-year plan to implement the Project. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Ogawa Akira, JICA expert who will be working at IP Viet Nam for the next 02 years, expressed his honor to participate in the Project and committed that in the near future, both sides will actively implement the cooperation content, frequently exchange, and update information on the results of the cooperation activities.
Project Details: - Objective: Enhance the capacity for processing patent and trademark applications of IP Viet Nam . - Funding Source:** Japanese Government. - Duration: 2 years. - Main Activities: +Training and workshops for IP Viet Nam’s staff; improving the patent and trademark application examination procedures; supporting the development of a quality management system. Expected Contributions: - Improve the quality and efficiency of processing patent and trademark applications. - Reduce the time and cost of processing applications. - Promote the development of science, technology, and innovation in Vietnam. |
